What to bring on a spiritual retreat

"I'm going on a trip and I'm bringing a toothbrush, a journal, a camel, the empire state building...etc"?  This was a game we played when we were young and each person took turns adding an item, but first you had to recite the entire list of things that had come before. Those were our car ride games before dvd's and smart phones. Well the Gathering Ministry retreat facilitators played this game to make a list of helpful things to bring on a Hineni Gathering Retreat:

  • journal with pen
  • Bible
  • watch
  • lap blanket
  • small back pack or bag to carry items during outdoor time
  • comfortable lounging clothes for house including house shoes – our retreat weekends are casual!
  • outdoor hiking/trail shoe/rubber boots may be preferred due to stickers & tall grass
  • umbrella/poncho/raincoat/jacket - appropriate weather gear (be aware of the weather forecast highs & lows for your retreat weekend)
  • sunscreen, hat, sunglasses & bug spray
  • beach towel or sitting blanket for outdoor use
  • personal toiletries and any needed prescription or over the counter medications you take or might need. IE- daily allergy or as needed migraine
  • your favorite beverage container for coffee & cold drinks
  • we will provide coffee Keurig pods - feel free to bring your own preferred coffee pods or tea bags
  • Personal favorite snack food or drink - all meals will be provided along with coffee, iced tea and water.
  • Book of favorite prose or sketch pad, camera, or musical instrument for creative time.
